Atheism is specifically the absence of belief in a god or gods. It has been extended by most modern philosophers to include non-belief in any spiritual or metaphysical assertions that are not supported by scientifically based evidence.  In the media atheist philosophers condemn religious morality as based on unquestioned scriptures that originate from bronze age and medieval ignorance. The majority of Scientific-Atheists advocate a morality of  based on critical thinking, natural empathy and compassion that has evolved  as part of human altruism.  Scientific-Atheism has become a strong voice in advocating critical thinking in education accusing many educational institutions of indoctrinating children with pseudo science in science classes in the form of 'intelligent design' in an attempt to give their religious ideas credibility. The attack on religion (especially on the abrahamic religions) has been primarily based on exposing immoral practices that are advocated by their scriptures and also their baseless assertions of divine support. The religious defence has been aggressive and attempted to accuse atheist philosophers of having no basis for morality. The writers Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens are best known for there defence of the atheistic stand point and they have influenced an assembly of new atheists who have found each other through the internet.
